Introducing The PORTRAY® System, the World’s First Intraoral Tomosynthesis Solution
The PORTRAY® System offers dentists the first opportunity to bring 3D Tomosynthesis (3D Tomo) to their practices, dramatically increasing the information they can gather during an exam. With the power of 3D Tomo, dentists can identify more pathology resulting in more actionable diagnoses. The PORTRAY® System generates a virtual 3D dissection of the teeth in .5mm "slices" allowing dentists to see inside the tooth, layer by layer. The PORTRAY® System’s Synthetic 2D mode allows dentists to rotate their view of the teeth by six degrees to the left or right, opening up interproximal contacts.
Derived from technological developments made by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Department of Physics and Astronomy’s work with carbon nanotube X-ray sources and the Adams School of Dentistry’s work on sIOT (stationary Intraoral Tomosynthesis), the PORTRAY® System was developed by Surround Medical Systems and has now received 510(k) pre-market clearance from the FDA for intraoral use in dentistry.
